Abstract

This study examines the history of Soviet and Russian pop music festivals which took place in Latvian Baltic resort Jūrmala between 1986 and 2014. First, the development of the Baltic resort and primarily its representation in the Eastern Block will be highlighted. The second part analyses the music festivals in Jūrmala in a wider context within the Soviet and post-Soviet history. The examination is based upon the press coverage and memories of contemporary witnesses.
